Moderators
Dr. Melaku Tesfaye
Dr. Melaku Tesfaye is a board certified internist. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his residency training at Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Currently he works as a hospitlaist in New Jersey, USA. He is extremely passionate about networking and mentoring among the diaspora healthcare professionals and he is the creator of habesha healthcare professionals Facebook group. He also volunteers as a career mentor with Selamta Family Project which is an organization that works to bring children living in unsafe environment and orphanages into a family oriented living arrangement in Ethiopia.
He also believes in good work-life balance and if not busy working at the hospital, he tries to spend as much time as possible with his family and friends.
He spends his spare time listening to music, writing poetry and watching sports. Finally, he is very excited in being part of this YetenaWeg-EMSA collaboration webinar series; hoping it will make someone’s career path to success a little less stressful.
Dr.Heaven Yeshaneh Tatere
Heaven Yeshaneh Tatere is a General Medical Practitioner who graduated from Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences. She is passionate about gender equality, global health and wants to contribute her share in the field of health equity and universal health coverage. She has been volunteering and coordinating programs related to adolescents and women like SHEBA (Sexual Health education for better awareness) and SHE Matters and has held various positions in IFMSA-Ethiopian Medical Students Association, InciSion Global Educations Team and also is the co-founder of InciSion Ethiopia. She has also worked with USAID Challenge TB as a training organizer and facilitator on Tuberculosis infection control (TBIC) in different cities in Ethiopia. She is currently working on systematic review for the G4 Alliance on Perioperative Mortality Rate in low- and middle-income countries. Currently she started working as a Co-Chair in Gender equity in Global Surgery initiative. It is her life goal and mission to see gender equality and quality health care delivery systems in Africa.
In addition, Heaven loves to travel and learn about different multicultural contexts, read novels, cook and hang out with friends.

Dr. Helina Gashaw Negusse
Dr. Helina is a 2016 medical graduate from Hayat Medical College. She has worked as a General Practitioner as well as Health Facility Quality Expert and Assistant Medical Director in Addis Ababa. She aspires to become a Histopathologist.
Currently, she has moved to the UK with her partner Dr. Hailemeskel both worked as medical doctors after completing both PLAB 1 and 2 Exams. She is currently working as a Resident Medical Officer in a Psychiatry Hospital.
In her spare time, she loves to travel and is also an amateur photographer.
Dr. Alula H. Tesfay
Dr. Alula H. Tesfay is a final year (Chief) diagnostic radiology resident at Ascension Providence/Michigan
State University – College of Human Medicine. After graduating from Addis Ababa University, worked at
Dodola Hospital for more than 3 years as medical staff and Medical Director, and was Adult Anti-
Retroviral Treatment Advisor at I-TECH Ethiopia afterwards. After joining the Diagnostic radiology
residency at Ascension providence, he has won many awards and published various papers and case
Reports. Dr. Alula H Tesfay will be pursuing Combined Body and Musculoskeletal Imaging fellowship at George Washington University after completion of his residency.
Dr. Elsabeth Asare
Dr. Elsabeth T Asare is currently a 3rd year Internal Medicine resident at Richmond University Medical Center in New York. She is a 2010 graduate of Addis Ababa University and then worked as a General Practitioner in Dodola Hospital ,Ethiopia for more than 3 years. She was involved in multiple community outreach programs while working in Dodola Hospital and is interested in QI projects .
Dr. Abel Tsehay
Dr. Abel Tsehay is a 2017 medical graduate from Addis Ababa University College of Health sciences. After graduation, he was working as a general practitioner and lecturer in Wolaita Sodo University Teaching and Referral Hospital from 2018-2020. He is passionate about internal medicine,dermatology,pathology, and Radiology. He likes music and photography. He recently completed his USMLE exam and plans to work in a research program before applying for residency.
